Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the most popular places in the World and certainly the most visited in Costa Rica. It is located in a region that has a great hospitality infrastructure and all sorts of activities and adventures.
“Our Great National Parks” is a five-episode television series that takes viewers on a journey to 13 mighty and stunning National Parks: Hanuma Bay in Hawaii, Loango n Gabon, Tsingy de Bemaraha in Madagascar, Yakushima in Japan, Yellowstone and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary in the United States, Kakadu and The Great Barrier Reef in Australia and, of course, our Manuel Antonio National Park.
Throughout the show, former US President Barack Obama provides narration as viewers travel to some of the most spectacular and mesmerizing locations on the planet.
According to the former president, the show is a “journey through the natural wonders of our shared birthright, but this birthright is constantly under attack, from man-made disasters and indulgences that have accelerated a global climate crisis, and many species are on the verge of extinction.”
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica’s tropical paradise, is shown in all its splendor in episode one. Sloths, iguanas, squirrel monkeys, white-faced monkeys, and colorful tiny crabs live in the National Park, as do various plant and flower species.
The documentary highlights and focuses on the three-fingered sloth’s green algae and how the ecosystem it fosters in its fur is enabling science research to find possible cures for diseases such as cancer, malaria, and antibiotic-resistant superbugs.
“At least 80 different species call him home.” (…) That is why scientists believe these sloths could be beneficial to all of us. (…) “It’s like a pharmaceutical factory; the fungi in their fur produce dyes that can fight diseases like cancer, malaria, and antibiotic-resistant superbugs,” Obama explained.
